Global holiday sales in November and December this year are expected to reach $1.19 trillion, up from last year’s $1.17 trillion. U.S. sales are forecast to hit $277 billion this year.

More than three-fourths of consumers surveyed by Salesforce (85%) said they are shopping for lower-priced goods and 40% said they are buying less now.

The argument presented was that omnichannel is not feasible, because no marketer has the resources to be omni (from the Latin – “every/all”) or omnipresent. Instead, we need to think more about optichannel – optimizing around the channels that make the most sense.

Inflation-induced cost pressures have driven down small business earnings for months. But the Fiserv Small Business Index, which tracks consumer spending at U.S. businesses, held steady at 141 in August, and the transportation, food, retail, and live entertainment industries all saw boosts.

CABs serve as an important forum for testing and validating ideas about new products and offerings, something that can’t be done in isolation without customer input. “You’re evolving constantly, so it’s making sure you’ve got regular touch points where you can put your product in front of customers and ask if it’s right or it’s wrong.”

In earnings call after earnings call, executives credit staff for providing exceptional customer experience. There’s good reason: Frontline employees provide the service brands are known for.

“They’re emotionally invested in things being better for the customer because when things aren’t going well for the customer, they’re always the ones bearing the brunt of it,” she said. “They want things to be different. They just need help.”
